The Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone Image

Where the heck have I been? Good question (actually, I’d like some answers). The only explanation I can come up with is best summed up in the opening narration to a popular 1950’s TV show:

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

Do you ever feel like you’re living in the twilight zone? That somehow you’ve ended up in an alternate reality where time warps and senses heighten and it’s only after the episode has ended that you realize you’ve stumbled into the zone; somehow you missed the announcer with the memorizing voice setting up the story?: “Drew heads to Vienna for the Christmas Market (aka he’s entering the twilight zone)”…

[Queue the ominous music: DUN-DUN-DUUUUN!!!]

Well, I clearly missed the opening narration and stumbled right into the zone. Looking back, everything went blurry and the next thing I know it’s 60 degrees and the forsythias are budding. Sound familiar?

Being in the zone seemed crazy and chaotic and it’s only looking back and watching my “episode” now that I get present to everything that’s happened. The miracles! Of course, when you’re in the zone things don’t necessary feel like a miracles…

Here’s where I’ve been since the holidays.

We brought on some amazing new Wasabi PR clients and our team produced some great results, including a segment on The Today Show.

Michelle worked with The Nelson Mandela Foundation on a breakfast with Bill Clinton, Morgan Freeman and the Soweto Gospel Choir at New York’s Church of St Paul the Apostle to celebrate Madiba’s life and share what’s next for his legacy.

Our client Pamela Yellen launched her new book The Bank on Yourself Revolution which became a New York Times Best Seller.

I flew across the pond to meet with our client Landmark Worldwide and flew to Las Vegas hang out, gamble and eat with my parents.

And we re-launched PitchRate.com, our media matchmaker that connects the best experts with journalists for free. (Not without a few glitches…)

Looking back, the past few months have been truly amazing; but swirling around, I felt like Dorothy swept up by the tornado.

This is not the first time I’ve entered the zone, of course – in fact, I live most of my life there… and while it’s great to look back, that pales in comparison to being present in the moment and savoring those major accomplishments. Like, how cool is it that my business partner went to New York to work with Bill Clinton, The Nelson Mandela Foundation and several top tier members of the media? And by re-launching 5-year-old PitchRate, we continue to fulfill our commitment to make a difference and change what people are talking about.

If you feel like things around you are crazy and that somehow you missed the opening narration and stumbled into the twilight zone, get present in the moment. It’s so empowering to wake up and realize that you ARE your twilight zone; not only are you the star, but you’re also the writer, director and producer.

If you like the script, keep playing the part. If you don’t, simply change it.
